The School Bus Your child must be at the bus stop at the designated time. The bus driver will not wait if your child is not at the bus stop. Missing the bus is not an excuse for being late or tardy.
Riding on the bus is a privilege, not a right!
Please review the following rules with your child. These rules are for the safety of the children on the bus as well as the other drivers on the road.
Obey the bus driver
Be courteous, do not use profanity
Eating & drinking is prohibited
Keep the bus clean
Be on good behavior at all times
Be on good behavior; fighting or playing on the bus or at the bus stop is prohibited
Be respectful of property; destroying or damaging any part of the school bus is prohibited
Remain seated whenever the bus is moving
Keep your head, hands and feet inside the bus at all times
Do not bring animals or large objects onto the bus
Speak quietly on the bus, shouting can distract the bus driver
Do not throw any objects while on the bus or out the windows
Students who do not behave well and follow the rules will not be allowed to ride the school bus. If your child is suspended from the school bus, you must find another way to get him or her to and from school. If your child misses school becuase he or she does not have transportation, it will be counted as an unexcused absence.
Carpooling Please drop your child off between 7:15 and 7:45. The school day begins at 7:45. If your child carpools, please drive through the carpool lane and drop your child off in front of the school. A teacher or safety patrol student will help your child from your car. Please do not drop your child off anywhere but at the front entrance. No student may enter the building before 7:15. You are putting your child at risk if he or she is dropped off before then.
Late Arrivals Parents have a responsibility to insure that their child arrives at school on time. When a child arrives late, he or she must go to the office first to obtain permission to enter their class. Once the student arrives at school, it is their responsibility to get to class on time. Students may not waste time in the halls or the bathroom.
Transportation Changes If your child normally rides the bus but you would like to pick him or her up from school, you must let us know ahead of time. If your child would like to go home with another student, both students must bring a note signed by the parents notifying the school of this change. You may call the school at 881-1390 to inform us of any transportation change, but please do so before 1:45.
Dismissal
The dismissal bell rings at 2:15. If you carpool, please pick your child up in the carpool lane in front of the school. Please display you carpool number on your dashboard. This number should have been assigned to you by the main office.
Students who carpool must go directly
to the cafeteria when the bell rings. They
must be quiet and seated in order to hear when their carpool number is announced.
You may pick up your child before dismissal if necessary, but please do not do this between the 1:45 and 2:15. You must first go by the office to sign him
or her out, then the student will be called to meet you in the main office.
The classroom teacher
may not dismiss a child from class without office approval
Attendance
Daily attendance is essential
for an effective education. Every school day is
important for learning what is required by the school curriculum. This
same curriculum also supports what is tested by the End of Grade Tests (EOGs). North
Carolina law demands
the attendance of all children younger than sixteen.
Absences
Wake County policy states
seven
reasons that a student's absence should be excused:
Illness or injury of a child*
Health department quarantine
of a child
Death in the family
Medical or dental appointment
Court subpoena
Recognized religious observance
Valid educational opportunity with prior administrative approval
All other absences are
unexcused
*If your child has
a fever of more of 100¡ F or a
contagious sickness, we request that they remain at home.
When your child
returns to school, he or she must bring a note including their name,
the reason for the absence, the dates of the
absence and the parent or guardian's signature. Without a note,
the absence will be considered unexcused.
A student who comes
to school for part of the day must
be present at least three hours and fifteen minutes in order to be counted as
present.
If a child misses 30
days or more of
school, he or she will automatically be retianed.
Field
Trips You must sign a permission slip in order for your child to go on a field trip. Please
send in the signed permission slip along with any money that may be required. If
your child does not turn in a permission slip, he or she will not be allowed
on the field trip. If students returns from a field trip after dismissal, you must provide transportation from the school back home.
There is one chaperone for every ten children on a given field trip. If you would like to chaperone, WCPSS policy states that you must register ahead of time as a volunteer. Please come to the library at our school to register.
Students who do not exhibit good behavior on
a field trip will lose the opportunity to go on another one unless
his or her parent or guardian comes along. If a student cannot attend a field trip with his or her class he or she will
remain at school with another
teacher and do assigned classwork.
Bad
Weather When inclement
weather conditions exist, WCPSS transportation supervisors monitor the roads and determine if school should be cancelled, delayed or close early. Local TV and radio stations will be notified if any change occurs so check with them or the WCPSS home page for weather information. At least two hours will be necessary for buses to
run their routes and that school closing times vary. Make-up days are determined at a later
time.
