Medication Any medication given during the school day for an extended amount of time (the entire school year) must be in the prescription bottle bearing the name of the child's doctor, the name of the medication to be given, the dosage, and the time of day to be given. This must be accompanied by the 1702 form filled out by the doctor, the parents, and the school principal. The 1702 form is available at your doctor's office or the school's main office. If you child's medication changes in any way, a new 1702 form must be filled out reflecting the change.
Parents are responsible for transporting medication to and from school. Students are not allowed to have medication in their possession on the school bus or in school. Aspirin, Tylenol, or any other over the counter medication must adhere to the same guidelines. Short term medication, such as an antibiotic, may be given to a student when the medication is brought to the school in the prescription bottle and is accompanied by a note from the parent.
Unexpected illnesses, such as headaches, stomach aches, etc., that occur during the school day are handled by the office staff. Verbal assessment is taken, temperature determined, and parents are generally called to make the decision as to whether or not the child stays in school. Some temporary illnesses, however, such as temperature in excess of 100° F, vomiting, or diarrhea require that the student leave school. The student should return to school only after he has been symptom-free for 24 hours.

anything in glass bottles. Students who bring their lunch may purchase
milk. The menu, prices and rules can
all be found on the cafeteria webpage.
Applications for free or reduced
lunch are located in the main office. It takes about two weeks to
process the application. A response will be sent you you by mail. If
your child receives free or reduced lunch, a new application will be mailed
to you and must be submitted every year.
You can put money in a lunch account
for your child. Send a check with your child's name, their lunch number
and your child's teacher to "Green Year Round Elementary." Please not
to send cash. You can also pay for lunches online or by phone.
Physical Education Please find out which day your child has physical education (PE) so that he or she comes to school in comforable clothes and sneakers. Students may not wear boots, sandals, dress shoes, dresses or skirts on the day that they have PE.
Guidance Counselor The guidance counselor can help you and your child have a successful year. Please call if you would like to make an appointment to speak with her.
Computers and the Internet The internet is a global network that will provide your child with access to a wide range of information from throughout the world. Use of the
internet for educational projects will assist in preparing your child for success in life and his or her future career. However, it is possible that your child may find material on the internet that you would consider objectionable. Our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) restricts access to material that is inappropriate in the school environment and we
have installed software designed to limit access to inappropriate material. However, the software is not entirely
effective in blocking access and, therefore, we cannot guarantee that your child will not gain access to
inappropriate material. There may also be material on the internet that is not in accordance with
your family's values. We encourage you to have a discussion with your
child about your values and expectations about how they should guide your child's activities
while they are on the internet.
Library Students can check out one or two books at a time from the library. It is important
that they are returned in good condition
(no spots or torn pages) and before the due date. If a student has a lost
or overdue book, he or she will not be able
to check out more books until all overdue books are returned, all fines are paid. If a book is lost it must be purchased before additional books may be checked out.
Lost & Found Please use permanent marker to write your child's name on his or her sweaters,
jackets, lunch box, backback and anything else that might get lost. All
lost & found items are brought to the library and are readily available for parents and children to look through
on a daily basis. Each new item is shown on the televised morning announcements
program, "Lily
Pad Live". Unclaimed items will be donated to a charitable organization
at the
end of each month.
The school is not responsible
for the robbery or loss of personal affects. Students
who bring valuable items to school do so at their own
risk.
English
as a Second Language (ESL) The ESL program is for students
whose native language is not English. The
ESL teachers help students acquire English and social language
in order to communicate with other english speakers both socially
and academically in order
to be successful in the classroom. At the elementary level, students who
qualify receive ESL instruction for forty-five
minutes every day. When a student gets to a certain proficiency level in
English, that student may no
longer
qualify for the ESL program.
