What are Green Student Leaders? Green Student Leaders are GYR's version of a student council. Two students are chosen from each fourth and fifth grade class to represent their grade and our school. Why do we have Green Student Leaders? The reason we have Green Student Leaders is to promote leadership and character education, as well as school and community involvement for all of our students at GYR. |

What do the Student Leaders do? Throughout the year the Green Student Leaders meet and organize several service projects such as a Book Drive, Food Drive, Coat Drive and Cleaning Supplies Drive. The service projects involve the entire school community and benefit our local communities outside of GYR. We also participate by supporting the Green staff with any special Cultural Arts programs, or Family Involvement activities that are held here at Green. The Green Student Leaders are able to help in many ways! |

How does someone become a Green Student Leader? At the beginning of each year the 4th and 5th grade teachers announce that it’s time to select representatives. The opportunity is open to all students. If you are interested there are some requirements such as being a good citizen, able to talk in front of groups, responsible for getting information to the class, able to represent the grade and class well at meetings, dependable, AND to get along with peers. If you are interested you should fill out the form given to you by your teacher. The forms are posted or read aloud so that the class can learn more about each interested student. After a while, the class will hold an election and two winners will be determined. |
