The Year Round Magnet Schools Intersession
Magnet (IM) will provide significantly expanded learning experiences within
the year-round magnet model that is designed to foster increased academic
success for students. The model will deliver an innovative instructional
program and additional time beyond the regular school year. The program,
located in communities in which participating children live, will be made
possible through a unique partnership among parents, schools, and community
organizations and is designed to accomplish the following expectations:
provide a stimulating, safe,
challenging, and cost-effective learning environment
afford students opportunities
for achieving higher levels of academic performance
design and implement thematic
units using the expertise of trained professionals
improve the thinking ability,
mathematical communication, and language performance of children by using
a Customized Acceleration Plan (CAP) tailored to individual needs, talents,
and interests
develop the personal and social
competence of students through an emphasis on leadership skills, self-confidence,
good citizenship, and positive character traits
strengthen partnerships among
families, schools, and the community-based learning centers by establishing
systematic interaction and opportunities for families to be involved in
all areas of learning
extend the school year by 30-40
days
empower parents to use effective
educational methods with their children
offer adult educational opportunities
for parents and provide extension activities relating to a theme through
camps, the arts, field trips, and visiting experts
